8 Legitimate Side Hustles You Can Do From Home (No MLMs!)

One thing I will always be passionate about is the entrepreneurial spirit of stay-at-home-moms. I love that so many moms want to find ways to contribute to their family’s income while still being able to stay home with their kids. There are lots of great side-hustles out there that can easily be done from home and without a major investment. Best of all, most of these side hustles can be easily promoted on apps like Thumbtack, Upwork, and Fiverr, which make it easy for you to find and connect with potential customers. So, here are eight side hustles that are very accessible and require no inventory purchases or predatory recruitment tactics, and that require little to no expertise or special degrees.

Freelance Writing:

If you have a flair for words, consider freelancing as a writer. You can offer your services on various platforms and write articles, blog posts, or social media content for clients across different industries. If you haven’t already, consider starting a blog of your own through Word Press or Medium to showcase what you can do.

Virtual Assistance:

Become a virtual assistant and support busy entrepreneurs or businesses with administrative tasks, email management, social media scheduling, or calendar organization. Virtual assistants are in high demand and offer flexible working hours. There are websites like this one that even provide a Virtual Assistant certificate after taking a 6 week course.

Online Tutoring:

Utilize your expertise in a particular subject or skill and become an online tutor. Platforms like VIPKid, Chegg Tutors, and Teachable allow you to connect with students worldwide and share your knowledge in a virtual classroom.

Graphic Design:

If you’re creatively inclined, consider offering graphic design services. Create logos, social media graphics, or website designs for clients looking to enhance their brand presence. Honestly, even if you’re not creatively inclined, apps like Canva are easy to use and allow anyone to create unique and beautiful designs. Canva has an intuitive interface and a large repository of templates to help you get started, which could help even the less creative among us create truly inspired designs.

Pet Sitting or Dog Walking:

For animal lovers, pet sitting or dog walking can be a fun and rewarding side hustle. Many pet owners seek reliable individuals to care for their furry friends while they’re away or to take their dogs for regular walks. When my husband and I first got married and were working full time, we used Thumbtack to hire a dog-sitter from our neighborhood to take our dog for two walks a day while we were at work. She even stayed at our home one weekend while we were out of town to keep our dog company!

E-commerce Reselling:

Tap into the world of e-commerce by reselling products through platforms like eBay, Poshmark, or Etsy. Start by selling items you no longer need or source unique products from thrift stores or wholesalers. What’s nice about this side-hustle is that you can use your own social media platforms to promote your site and let people know what you have in your online store. If you have a relatively large social media platform (think 10k or more) you can usually sign up for the Amazon affiliate program and others like it and begin earning commissions just by sharing the things you already use and love!

Online Surveys and Market Research:

Participate in online surveys and market research studies to earn extra cash in your free time. Many companies are willing to pay for your opinions on various products and services. Probably the easiest way to find online surveys and market research is through Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk). On a personal note, MTurk was where I posted many of the psychological studies I did for my dissertation work, and I paid $3 to $5 per response. Since most of the surveys on MTurk don’t take very long to complete, these small sums can add up fast!

Remote Customer Service:

Join a remote customer service team and provide support to customers from your home. Many companies hire remote customer service representatives to handle inquiries via phone, chat, or email. A quick search on apps like Indeed produces tons of remote customer service positions, with the added benefit that Indeed assists you with the application process.

Side hustles offer a fantastic way to supplement your income and reach your financial goals without getting involved in MLMs. These eight legitimate side hustles can be done from home, providing you with flexibility and the opportunity to explore your passions and skills. Remember to choose a side hustle that aligns with your interests and expertise, and with dedication and hard work, you can turn your side gig into a fulfilling and rewarding venture.
